INTRODUCTORY MEETING | Tuesday, Aug. 21 | 4 to 5 p.m. | 416 Student Union

All current Freshman Research Scholars will gather to socialize and learn about important program requirements and guidelines.  Former FRS will share their experiences with undergraduate research and offer strategies for successfully conducting projects.  College groups will break out to meet with their coordinators.

This is a mandatory event for all FRS scholarship recipients.  In the event of a verifiable scheduling conflict, students must arrange a meeting with FRS Director, Tim O’Neil (334 Student Union, 405-744-7313, tim.oneil@okstate.edu) to maintain eligibility for the program scholarship.  FRS should not skip class to attend this meeting.


ETHICS SEMINAR | Tuesday, Oct. 2 | 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. | 408 Student Union

Dr. Shelia Kennison, Associate Professor in Psychology and Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair, will lead a short seminar on ethics in research.

This is a mandatory event for all FRS scholarship recipients.  In the event of a verifiable scheduling conflict, students must arrange a meeting with FRS Director, Tim O’Neil (334 Student Union, 405-744-7313, tim.oneil@okstate.edu) to maintain eligibility for the program scholarship.  FRS should not skip class to attend this meeting.


SCHOLAR DEVELOPMENT RECEPTION 
Wednesday, Nov. 7 | 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. | Willard Hall Living Room

All current Freshman Research Scholars will meet to learn about The Henry Bellmon Office of Scholar Development and Recognition at OSU. Former scholars will share their experiences with the office and discuss how to successfully apply for institutional research scholarships, such as the Wentz and Niblack, among other prestigious national and international scholarships.

This is a mandatory event for all FRS scholarship recipients.  In the event of a verifiable scheduling conflict, students must arrange a meeting with FRS Director, Tim O’Neil (334 Student Union, 405-744-7313, tim.oneil@okstate.edu) to maintain eligibility for the program scholarship.  FRS should not skip class to attend this meeting.


PROGRESS REPORT & MENTOR AGREEMENT DEADLINE | Friday, Nov. 30

To remain eligible for the program scholarship, all current Freshman Research Scholars are required to submit the Progress Report, which describes their activities during the fall semester and explains their plans for the spring.  Faculty mentoring FRS projects must confirm the arrangement by submitting the Mentor Agreement.

RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS SEMINAR
Tuesday, Feb. 5 | 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. | 035 Murray Hall

The Graduate College, the Henry Bellmon Office of Scholar Development and Recognition, and the Office of the Vice-President of Research and Technology Transfer are hosting a seminar on making effective research presentations, which will prepare you to present your research at the Freshman Research Scholars Colloquium.

I encourage you to read the Guide to Effective Presentations prior to the seminar.

FRESHMAN RESEARCH SCHOLARS COLLOQUIUM | Friday, April 12

All current Freshman Research Scholars will present the results of their research at the annual colloquium and reception.

To remain eligible for the program scholarship, all current Freshman Research Scholars are required to submit the Program Evaluation.
